Halterworth School Council

We have a dynamic and enthusiastic School Council comprising 12 pupils aged 5 to 11. Members are chosen by each class and encouraged to represent the views of other pupils and play an active role in the life of the school.
The following is a selection of the projects, initiatives and tasks the School Council have undertaken and organised in the last year:

  • Pupil Views Survey – the School Council generated a list of 15 questions, designed a questionnaire and distributed this to every child in the school in order to help shape the direction of school improvement.
  • Interviews with prospective Deputy Headteachers – the School Council were given timetabled sessions to interview 6 candidates (and the freedom to generate their own interview questions!) for the post of Deputy Headteacher in 2009.
  • Playground Games Survey – the School Council carried out research into the games played by pupils in order to promote active, healthy and enjoyable playtimes.
  • Fruit Tuck Shop – the School Council helped to plan, organise and promote and runs a healthy tuck shop for Key Stage 2 pupils in order to provide healthy snacks at playtimes and encourage financial awareness.
  • School Policy Development – The School Council contributed valuable thoughts and comments which informed the latest school Anti Bullying Policy, amongst others
