Our School

Halterworth Primary School is situated in the Hampshire market town of Romsey,  six miles from Southampton and within easy reach of the New Forest and the coast. We have extensive playing fields and a much loved Forest School. We have two large playgrounds, each with their own adventure play equipment, and a multi use games area (MUGA), table tennis and outdoor fitness equipment for Key Stage 2 children.

We admit 60 pupils each year into Year R and a further four pupils from Year 3 onwards. Organised into two classes per year group, each Class Teacher is supported by experienced Teaching Assistants. As a Teacher Training School we also have student teachers working alongside our experienced staff, which creates a vibrant team.

The school is well resourced with an extensive new library, purpose built music room and an impressive site of laptops, tablets, Chromebooks and iPads. We also have facilities for film studies, green screen technology and ‘stop frame’ animation. Each class room has the latest Clever Touch LED display boards and networked computers.

There is a strong commitment for excellence in the arts and sport. We ensure that children have opportunities to create and perform for an audience. We encourage participation in a wide range of sporting activities and enthusiastically compete in local and county competitions.

We value the external and internal environment of the school and high quality displays of children’s work are evident in every classroom and shared areas. We promote strong active learning behaviours in the children, classrooms are focused and reflect the current curriculum and challenges we provide.

Our school day starts at 8.55 am and children can arrive on site from 8.45 am.  Our Year R children finish at 3.25 pm, Years 1 and 2 at 3.30 pm and Years 3 to 6 at 3.35 pm. (Total hours of in a typical week: 32.5)
